3,000 new homes destined for South Oxford
Oxford city council is proceeding with plans to build 3,000 homes on a site at Grenoble Road to the south of Oxford. A master development partner will now be sought with the goal of submitting a planning application before 2023. The development will also incorporate an extension to the neighbouring Oxford Science Park and a new 'park and ride' facility.
"Extra new housing is essential for Oxford as for many decades this has been desperately under supplied. The proposed site sits to the south of the city and will offer easy ring road and A34 access, plus I understand the former Cowley branch line may also be reinstated to provide a direct rail link to the city centre. Despite the arrival of such a large number of new homes I don't envisage the site will have any significant impact on central Oxford house prices. The ring road, to which this development will sit just outside, acts as a protective barrier to house prices across the popular neighbourhoods within. For families and young couples seeking a more affordable alternative, but without compromise on accessibility to the city and science parks, the Grenoble Road development could be an excellent location'.
