Oxford City Council Traffic Filters

BY John Gebbels

Oxford City Council’s contentious traffic filtering scheme, set for a one year trial implementation later this year, remains a hot local topic.

The scheme is designed to completely prevent car journeys between various different areas of the city, with the intention of reducing car usage.

The impacts of the scheme appear to be of little concern to our tenants, the majority of whom walk, cycle or use public transport to access their day to day destinations. Our valued contractors look to remain equally unaffected, as commercial vehicles should be exempt from the scheme.

Residents will have access to occasional filter permits, and so visitors and local businesses, ourselves included, appear likely to be most affected. We are though working on some possible solutions to maintain 'business as usual' should the scheme become implanted as planned in September.
